Ms. R had the most empowering boudoir experience here in our Kalamazoo Studio. She stepped outside her comfort zone right at the most needed time and left not only with some amazing images of herself, but also the most amazing and beautiful experience for her growth and transformation.
Here is what she had to say about her whole experience.
Use 3-5 words to describe your experience with Brea Oakes Photography Empowering. Discovering. Beautiful.
What was your favorite part of the session? I loved how hands on you are to help me learn this position, that one, to open up to myself more than anyone.
Was your experience what you were expecting? If not, how was it different? Yes and no. Having met and known you through the internet for a while, I know she’s such an empathetic, positive and beautiful person. But to have it happen while in a room with her goes against who and what most photographers seem to be.
What was the best part of your overall experience so far? Finally doing something for myself was so needed for so many reasons. To have somone there to help and to be able to open up with made the whole experience better. I can’t forget the pampering part either, though!
What did you think when you saw your images for the first time?I was in awe that who I saw was myself. I clearly was the person in the pictures, but it felt surreal seeing the new steps I’m taking in life come out in pictures.
Did you find my self love tips and exercise emails helpful? Anything that stuck out to you?Yes!! I loved getting the emails and tips. It was so wonderful to know this experience is more than just pictures. Having the little exercises like staring at my own eyes in the mirror was such a different way to appreciate myself in ways I haven’t before.
How nervous were you before you shoot? How did you feel after?I’m always nervous doing new things with new people, but having already gotten to know you through messages took a lot of that away. I walked out of my session just over the moon, happy and proud of myself.
What does Body Love mean to you? We are told by society, celebrities, doctors, important people in our lives and even those on the street that we as women have to look a certain way, feel a certain way, act a certain way. We are taught not to love ourselves unless others deem us worth. These are the reasons I chose to do this. I am who I am and no one else gets to have control over that.Part of my process in handling my life at the moment is realizing it actually is my own life. Taking these pictures was an important step for me. I have to love and respect myself before I can let others in on that part of me. I’m rearranging my past to make it all my own – My choices, my loves, my life, my habits, my desires, my dislikes even. They’re mine and mine alone.
What would you say to other women who are hesitant to do a session like this? Do you have a message to share?Of course it can be frightening! Problem is, having Brea as a photographer, the second you walk in that amazing studio, that fear lifts right off your chest and only love and pride remain. Really unfortunate to have that happen, isn’t it 😉?
Do you have any final thoughts, feedback or anything else you’d like to share? Thank you, thank you, thank you for all you do to go above and beyond for your clients. You are our soulmate in times of need, happiness, darkness and light. All my love to you ♥️
