We celebrate Body Love here in our Michigan Boudoir Studio.
What is the purpose of your session? Is it a gift for yourself or someone else? What interests you in a boudoir session at this point in your life?
I’ve been intrigued by the boudoir session ever since I started seeing your posts. A couple years ago, I lost a significant amount of weight and began feeling healthier and sexier than I had in years, maybe a couple decades. I have gained a little of it back along with continuing to age, and with those, lost a tiny bit of confidence. I think a boudoir session will be fun, make me feel good about myself, push me out of my comfort zone, and provide some special photos I can share with my husband. I think it’s a perfect time in my life to do this as I am turning 50 next summer, but still feel and (mostly) look younger than my age.
Tell me about yourself. Personality, kids, profession, favorite food and hobbies? What do you value? Absolutely anything you want to share so I can get a sense of who you are, what you like. I want to see you for you and beyond the social media glimse.
I am a little bit of a class clown, definitely an extrovert, and have seen these characteristics grow more prominent as I age. I have a master’s in social work and am employed full time for our county’s community mental health agency. I am in administration doing grant writing, program development, project management, marketing and a wealth of other random and fun work. I like to stay active. I play ice hockey and soccer 4-5 nights per week. I also run a little and play some golf. I have been married for 21 years and have 2 children, 19 and 15. We have a pet turkey, bearded dragon, and a little dog.
What is your biggest struggle in life right now?
I can honestly say I am very lucky that I don’t have many difficult struggles. Marriage and parenting are always challenging. I am fortunate to have a great spouse and incredible children! I thinking about my career at time and wonder what is next, yet continue to love what I do. I look forward to retirement, but worry about how to find joy when I can no longer play sports (May that day never come).
Have you done a session like this before? What was your experience? What did you like? Is there anything you disliked?
I have never done a session like this before.
How do you want these images to feel? How would you like to be photographed overall? Any certain style you love? Feel free to link or send any inspo images if you have them.
I would love for them to be sensual and sexy. I don’t often think of myself that way and I would like to embrace those aspects of myself. I honestly don’t know much more than that.
What are some of your own favorite physical features? (we already know you have a killer personality)
As I have aged, I am not really sure how to answer that. I think my eyes and smile. Used to be my legs and butt, however, things have shifted.
Is there anything you would like me to minimize, conceal or otherwise de-emphasize for our session?
I am most self conscious about my stomach. I have a lot of stretch marks from pregnancy and general weight gain and loss. The skin in my abdominal area now hangs pretty loose since I lost weight and I am acutely aware of it.
What is something that amazes you about your body? What is something about your SELF that amazes you?
I am sometimes amazed by my physical condition, being in shape, and ability to play the sports I play at my age. I have a hard time acknowledging that I am amazing. I am proud of myself and my achievements in life. I don’t see them as anything particularly special or amazing.
What was the last thing you did that made you feel super confident or where you felt full of purpose?
I did a few television and radio interviews recently and felt good about how they went and great about the reason for them.

Athletic, smart-ass, friendly
Use 3-5 words to describe your experience with Brea Oakes Photography
Relaxed, fun, positive
What was your favorite part of the session?
I loved it from beginning to end! Hair and makeup was indulgent. Brea’s help with wardrobe choices was super helpful. The direction and coaching was great!
Was your experience what you were expecting? If not, how was it different?
I felt more comfortable and relaxed than I had anticipated.
What was the best part of your overall experience so far? Would you change anything?
The shoot itself was very fun! Looking through the pictures was great too, but hard to pare them down. I wouldn’t change a thing!
What did you think when you saw your images for the first time?
I thought that they were beautiful! I was worried that I wouldn’t like seeing myself in any of them, but Brea’s eye and artistic skill made it so that I loved so many of them!
Did you find my self love tips and exercise emails helpful? Anything that stuck out to you?
I have to admit that I didn’t do a lot of the self love suggestions. Just not my personality.
Did you find my session preparation helpful? Anything that stuck out to you or helped you the most?
I enjoyed receiving the prep suggestions especially those that helped with prep for the shoot especially wardrobe tips.
How nervous were you before you shoot? How did you feel after?
I wasn’t very nervous beforehand. I was even more relaxed during the shoot than I anticipated. I felt great after the shoot! Confident, strong, sexy.
The Body Love Experience is about loving yourself as you are and inspiring others to do so as well by sharing your story. Is there anything specific you would like to me to share with your images or story?
I can’t think of anything specific except maybe continuing to love yourself and appreciate that you are still sexy even as you age.
What does Body Love mean to you? Why did you decide to be a part of this experience?
Body love to me means loving and accepting yourself. I decided to do this because I feel better about myself now than I did when I was younger partially because I have lost weight and partly because my confidence and self acceptance has increased with age.
What would you say to other women who are hesitant to do a session like this? Do you have a message to share?
Do a session for yourself and not for anyone else. It gives you the opportunity to have fun, embrace your sensuality and sexiness and remind yourself that you are a strong, confident woman.
