One option I like to offer for Newborn Sessions are lifestyle sessions in studio. These are different than your typical newborn studio session as they focus less on posed images and more about in the moment and candid shots of your little one and family. My sessions really focus on capturing the relationship of the new family unit. They are another option for families that do not want to have photos in their home and want less of the typical studio posed look.
The Shovlain Family traveled a couple hours to have me photograph their session in Kalamazoo and we chose Jerico Studio. It has the perfect backdrop for a lifestyle session, is very roomy and has the cutest decor and furniture inside.
We started off with just some family shots since Smith was awake and then Mom took some time to settle him asleep for a few of the posed shots. They tried very long and hard to settle Smith and finally he gave in. The Family came with at least one shot in mind they wanted to capture and so begin the set up.
We were able to capture a few more of Smith while he slept soundly.
Smith wasn’t asleep for long and that’s ok. As newborns are not on a schedule and are unpredictable as far as sleeping habits go, we worked with what he gave us.
When he woke up, we moved on to some sweet family photos. The nice thing about Jerico studio is they also have some adorable outside spaces to capture as well.
For this type of lifestyle newborn session, its best done within the first 3 weeks of life. Typically after the first and second week, babies are more awake and are not a huge fan of the swaddle stage anymore.
